Week 1 – Monday – (26th of September)

On Monday, all students from different courses (Animation, Graphic Design and Illustration) had to meet in the graphic design area (J2.42 + J2.43). Afterwards, the module leader Stephen Hall (Course leader of Graphic Designers), explained how we would be assessed in this module. The module is divided into two tasks.

The first task is Website building, where you have to build your own website and have to updated it everyday. It must contain basic knowledge of the module, also be aesthetically appropriate to your work. It should contain my personal thoughts, ideas, opinion and more. For me this Website building reminds me of journaling, but digitally. For Website building we are free to use what ever we want, videos, screenshots, anything really.

The second task is a 1500 word Essay. We are tasked to write an essay with 1500 word essay, answering the question “How has your technology/tool impacted on your creative discipline, and how might this impact on your future career as a creative professional?“. For me, I should start writing this essay as soon as possible, since I have a hard time writing essays. The essay must be well structured, have good spelling, punctuation and good grammar. Also things that I’m not amazing at. Point of fact, we also have to use a form of referencing of all our quotes and citations, using the Harvard Referencing System. Which I never properly used.

After Stephen explain the main tasks, he divided the students into two groups, Group A and Group B. I was picked to be in group A. In that morning Group A had to start building their websites, by going to the computer lab (E-block). Where, we had Simon and Maria doing a Tutorial on how to build your own website on WordPress. Side comment: The tutorial was fine and helpful, but after a day or two you start to forget stuff and WordPress is not easy. I was satisfied with my website.

After lunch, groups switch places, Group A was going to do what Group B did in the morning. So, the afternoon we were introduced to a side group collaboration. Stephen explained, that wouldn’t be assessed its just something we can work on the side. To be honest, I really enjoy the group collaboration.

The side task is a collaborative project, called “Stamps”, where a group has to design a digital stamp. For this, group A was divided into groups. Each group had an Animator, a Graphic Designer and an Illustrator. In my group I was assign, Bella a Graphic designer and Tvet an Illustrator. At first we were all shy and didn’t speak much, but after awhile we started to come ups with ideas for our stamps.

The Stamps side project:

We started by writing down some themes that we found interesting.

We then decided to pick, “Retro Cartoons”. The three of us loved the idea so much, but what cartoon were we going to pick? So we decided to make a list of cartoons.

We then concluded to make four digital stamps, that have an animation to it, thanks to yours truly (me).
